Sizing a pickleball court to your lot
The lines are always 20 by 44. What changes from yard to yard is the run-off around them, and that is what decides whether the court plays well.
Lined court
20' x 44'Regulation, and identical for singles and doubles. Seven-foot kitchen either side of a net that sits thirty-six inches at the post and thirty-four at centre.
Residential minimum
30' x 60'The smallest footprint we will build on and still call a court. Five feet behind the baseline is enough to take a driven serve without backing into a wall.
Tournament footprint
34' x 64'Ten feet of run-off behind each baseline. If the lot and the setbacks allow it, this is the one to build — every lob is playable rather than conceded.
Converted tennis court
Up to 4 courtsA standard 60 by 120 tennis slab takes four pickleball courts crosswise, or two with generous run-off and room to walk between them.
Orientation matters as much as size. North-south keeps the low sun out of the server's eyes, and moving the court a few feet off the property line does more for the neighbours than any fence.
The tennis court nobody has played on since 2019
It is the most common project we take on, and the easiest one to say yes to. If the concrete is structurally sound and sheds water, it is already most of a pickleball court. We clean it, chase the cracks, coat over the top and strike new lines.
A conversion runs a fraction of a fresh pour and finishes in days rather than weeks. The slab already sitting in your yard is nearly always the cheapest court you will ever own.

Common questions about pickleball courts
- How much space does a pickleball court need?
- The lined court is 20 by 44 feet. Playable space is what matters, and that starts at 30 by 60 feet. Thirty-four by sixty-four is the tournament footprint and the one worth fighting your setbacks for if the lot allows.
- Can I convert my old tennis court to pickleball?
- Almost always, and it is the best value on this page. One tennis court holds up to four pickleball courts. If the concrete is sound and drains, you are paying for crack repair, surfacing and lines rather than a new pour.
- What does a pickleball court cost in Phoenix?
- It depends almost entirely on whether you need concrete. Surfacing an existing slab is a different order of magnitude than grading, forming and pouring a new one. The Instant Estimator asks the handful of questions that decide it and gives you a range in about a minute.
- Is the surface too hot to play on in summer?

- How long does a pickleball court take to build?
- Surfacing sound concrete runs days. A new build runs weeks, because the pour has to cure properly before any coating goes down. Rushing that step is the single most common reason courts fail early.
